Good things

There are many things that a person can be good at.  Each of us have a skill or talent that makes us unique among our friends, family and co-workers.  It does not have to be a particularly useful skill or talent, only something that sets you apart from the pack.  You may not even realize that you have this skill/talent.  Some people read fast, others can walk on their hands, some people can create great things out of nothing (like a good chef) and others can create great things out of mediocre parts (like a good cook.)

There should be no shame in having a skill/talent no matter how useless it is.  A person who can only hit a target with a rubber band is more valuable then an award winning scientist in the right circumstances.

(thank you tumblr)

I bring this up because I was told that a set of designs I had done were “not what we are looking for.”  They were very nice about it, but that does not mean that it did not bother me.  I put in a lot of hours into something that I know is not one of my strong suits.  I am not a chef, more of a cook.  It took me a while to come to grips with the idea that I am not a graphic artist.  I am not a chef.  I cannot create amazing things from almost nothing.  I am a cook.  I can create amazing things from mediocre parts.

I am still learning and admitting that I am not “good enough” is tough.  I need to know when to say “That is not something I am good at.” I look forward to the day I can add “.. but I know someone who is.”

Keep being a genius!
