I ran out new things to write about twice a week. Even once a week was getting hard. My life is not all that interesting. All I really do is create art and listen to music. There are only so many things one can write about on those activities.
I went online looking for ideas on what to write about. The internet did not let me down. I got some topics that I can work with. One that I thought was a great idea is “Motivational Monday.”
I can use motivation. I bet others could use motivation. I need to work on “small” or short duration drawings. Everything I have been working on lately has taken me a week or more to finish.
Motivational Monday’s will now be a thing I do.
The image below is actually version 4. I always do a few versions in my head, I did two in my sketchbook and this one on a 5×7 bit of bristol.
I attempted to do a freehand person in my sketchbook version. it was not very good. The guys arms would be dragging on the ground and the foot is severely deformed. It took about an hour to do.
The one I present to you was done with a stock photo and a light table. It took about 2 hours to do. I usually print out a black and white high contrast version of the image I plan on using. Then I sketch out the lines I want and any important shadows. The only thing that I used for this one was the position of the guy and the shadows that make up the face. I changed the shirt and hair.
Like it says in the quote, I will keep trying to get better at people. One more time, then one more time and maybe… one more time. Eventually I will be able to draw a person that does not look like it should have been a sideshow at a carnival in the 1800’s.
The goal is to do “Motivational Monday” every Monday. It will give me something to write about other than whatever boring thing is going on in my life. It will give me something positive to focus on.
Have a good Week!

I find it hard to keep up with my blog AND create art. I kind of think that the blog is a passive activity and creating art is the active activity. I talk about art and doing art in the blog but when I am not typing about art I can create it. So talking about it takes away from the doing.
This is not entirely true though. The only reason I even started actually creating art is due, in large part, to this blog. It got me in the frame of mind to actually work on my dream.
It is still hard to keep up with the blog.
Things are going well, overall. I am creating art, about two creations a month. Quite prolific for someone who is only doing it when I am not at work or tired from work. I would like to do more, but I just do not have the energy or focus at the moment.
I have a double sided whiteboard on wheels that I have filled with “to create” items. I am slowly working on it. I have three things in active progress, at the moment. I am keeping busy and on track. I do get sidetracked, like this posts creation.
This drawing/painting is really cool. No matter orientation it is viewed, it still works! I am super excited. I never expected it to work out so well. ^_^ It was done with Higgins Black Magic Ink and lots of water. I draw the lines out and then fill in the shading or colors with a tiny brush. I really like the effect.
I will be posting some color ones in a few months, when I get the series done.
I have been really busy the past few weeks.
I have done so many things.
- Photographed plants in 2 Gardens
- Photo shoot in a SteamPlant (way cool)
- Mothers day pics
- Creepy Angel
- Working on a stippling commission 12×22 inches (I am insane!)
- Stretch canvases for new paintings, 3 so far. More to go.
- Spring clean house (darn chores)
- Crypticon – Zombie Face paint
- I feel like I am missing something…
- There is always something more
Either way, I am kind of tired now. I need a day off. Time to do nothing and be nothing.
If you check out my Instagram account you will get to see all the crazy things I have been up to in visual form.
I am still trying to get prints made. I keep running into roadblocks (mostly the green paper kind.) I hope to have stuff by the end of September. Things are looking up!
Enjoy these images of my crazy few months. Go, GO, GO!!
I have a nasty cold.
It is interfering with my ability to do any art. I have things that I need to be working on, but I can barely hold a pen or pencil. It think it is going to be a week or two before I am back up to snuff.
Here is a pen and ink painting I finished earlier this month. It was inspired by a Halsey song, Gasoline. As I was working on it I started thinking of the movie Metropolis. I really like how it came out.
